In Ukraine, stopped broadcasting of RTVI / photo nrada.gov.ua
The national Council on TV and radio for six months suspended the broadcasting of RTVI in Ukraine for violations of the national legislation regarding the demonstration of products containing promotion or propaganda organs of the aggressor state, as well as with the participation of the persons, which are included in the List of persons posing a threat to national security of Ukraine.
The relevant decision on amendments to the List of foreign programmes, the content of which meets the requirements of the European Convention on transfrontier television and laws of Ukraine, the national Council adopted during the meeting, the press service of the regulator.
“For systematic violations of the Ukrainian legislation, the national Council temporarily – for a period of six months – stopped-broadcasting in Ukraine, TV channel “RTVI”. The relevant decision on amendments to the List of foreign programmes, the content of which meets the requirements of the European Convention on transfrontier television and laws of Ukraine, the regulator has adopted on 6 September”, – stated in the message.

It is noted that as the foreign program “RTVI” has the jurisdiction of great Britain, the national Council will inform the regulatory authority in the field of broadcasting in this country about the decision.
Reportedly, during monitoring the channel, conducted in the period from 2 February 2017 August 26, 2018, in its essential content has been repeatedly documented violations of the Ukrainian legislation.
“This refers to article 15-1 of the law of Ukraine “On cinematography”, according to which prohibited the distribution and demonstration of films containing promotion or propaganda organs of the aggressor state, as well as films produced by individuals and legal entities of the aggressor state”, – stated in the message.
In addition, according to the regulator, the registered violations of article 6 of the law of Ukraine “On television and radio broadcasting”, which is not allowed to broadcast audiovisual works involving persons, which are included in the List of persons who pose a threat to national security; article 28 of the law of Ukraine “On information”, according to which information cannot be used for calls to overthrow the constitutional order, violation of territorial integrity of Ukraine, propaganda of war, violence, cruelty and the like.
The national Council said that repeatedly in 2017, the regulator turned to the distributor of TV channel “RTVI” in Ukraine – the company “Sonar” and the foreign copyright holder of the program “RTVI” – the company Brenrose limited with letters reservations, which informed about the recorded violations of the European Convention on transfrontier television and laws of Ukraine.
For its part, the distributor of the program reported to the right holder about possible consequences of illegal demonstrations of audiovisual works.
“In his letter the owner of the channel said that a sufficient condition for retransmission of their programs on the territory of Ukraine according to the content of foreign programs exclusively to requirements of the European Convention because, in his opinion, the norms of international law have legal force than the provisions of the laws of Ukraine. However, he assured of his intentions in the future to adhere to the current legislation of Ukraine. However, the situation remained unresolved, and the violations continued in the air “RTVI”, – stated in the press service of the national Council.

The channel is the successor to the old NTV and TV6. The total audience of the TV channel RTVi is about 25 million people.
The founder of the channel is businessman Vladimir Gusinsky.
