He added that Ukraine upholds a proactive stance in the reform of the UN security Council.
The diplomat believes that the number of Eastern European States in this body should be more.
“Our government has consistently advocated the gradual abolition of the veto, which is especially important in conditions of aggression against Ukraine by Russia as a permanent member of the security Council,” wrote Yelchenko.
“Due to abuse Russian veto, the Council, whether during the consideration of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the situation around shoot down the Malaysian aircraft MH17, or in the matter of Salisbury and the situation in Syria is paralyzed,” – said Yelchenko.
The Ambassador added that when a permanent member of the security Council is a party to the conflict as Russia in Ukraine, it should be limited in the possibility of a veto on the issue, in which he is an interested party.
