The canadian Ambassador Roman Vashchuk stresses that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is not ready to start negotiations with Ukraine on the occasion of gaining membership in the Alliance.

As UNIAN correspondent, he said this at the discussion of the Kiev forum “What to expect from the NATO summit in 2018?”.
In particular, it asked whether there has come the moment when the desire of Ukraine on full membership could have a positive meet in the Alliance, and in particular at the NATO summit in Brussels, which will be held July 11-12. “I think, unfortunately, a sense of political realism indicate that the answer to your last question is no, not at the summit, and not in the current circumstances,” – said Vashchuk.
He noted that at the NATO summit important issue is the confirmation of the unity of the countries-members of NATO. “We need the Alliance to demonstrate the unity and cohesion, and that over the next two days you will work” – said Vashchuk.
