Chile became the first Latin American country to ban plastic bags

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on Friday announced that the country passed a law banning plastic bags and packaging, local media reported.

“I want to share with you the happy news. Today we took the law,” the President said at the ceremony in Santiago de Chile, where those present were given rag bag.

According to the law, major events needs to completely abandon plastic packaging in the six months, small businesses have been allocated for these two years.

“Without a doubt, we have made a great step towards the purification of Chile,” the President said.

From August 2018 in Chile banned the use of polyethylene except for purposes of hygiene or freshness of products. The country became the first in Latin America, where we have introduced such a ban.
