In Finland expect from the Russian release of all illegally detained Ukrainian citizens.


The Minister for foreign Affairs of Finland Timo Soini has called on the Russian Federation to provide necessary medical assistance to the Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov, who is 92-day hunger strike in a Russian prison.

This was reported in the microblog in Twitter the foreign Ministry.

“The state of health of Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov in prison is rapidly deteriorating. We expect that Russia will provide him with medical care and release of all illegally detained Ukrainian citizens”, – said the Minister.

As UNIAN reported earlier, employees of FSB have detained Sentsov in Crimea in spring 2014. He was transported to Russia, where he was tried on trumped-up charges of organizing terrorist attacks and arson of party offices on the Peninsula. A Russian court in August 2015 sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment. Sentsov is in prison in the city of Labytnangi on Yamal.

On 14 may he went on a hunger strike to demand the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners. July 13, it became known that the Director’s mother Ludmila Sentsova wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to pardon her son.

According to the lawyer, after a very low heart rate (40 beats per minute) and strongly decreased hemoglobin, leading to anemia. The lawyer said that to stop the hunger strike the political prisoner has no plans.

Denisov also addressed to the head of Putin’s administration with a request to contribute to the consideration of petitions for pardon of Sentsov.

On 10 August, the media reported that French President of Macron called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to find a humanitarian solution to the situation with the illegally convicted by a Ukrainian Director.
