As the correspondent of the UNIAN reports, the head of state said during a speech at the ceremony to the Day of defender of Ukraine on St. Sophia square in Kiev.
Poroshenko said that Russian Patriarch Kirill for each service praying for the Russian authorities, which carried out aggression against Ukraine.
“The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church prays for the Russian troops which killing Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, killing Ukrainians. And we in Ukraine, unfortunately, still there are temples where commemorate Patriarch Kirill, who performs these prayers,” he added.
“I think that this is definitely not for the Ukrainian people. Yes, except the temples where they pray for the Patriarch, who for his part prays for the Russian army, can be called a Ukrainian? I guarantee that there will be no pressure. I guarantee that will be maintained right the way to the God of every Ukrainian. I ask you to think about it and the flock and the faithful of this denomination,” said the head of state.

The President stressed that the question of the Tomos of autocephaly goes far beyond Church life.
“It’s a question of our independence. It is a question of our national security. It is a question of our statehood. This is a question the entire world geopolitics. And if not, then why the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarch the day before were discussed at the security Council of the Russian Federation under the chairmanship of Putin?” he said.
“We have not been, and, I emphasize, there is no state Church. And sanctified by the Tomos of the Orthodox Church, too, no one to invite power. It is a question of free choice for every believer. I guarantee that the government will respect the choice of those who decide to remain in the Church structure that preserves the unity of the Orthodox Church. It is their choice and should be respected”, – stressed the head of state.
Poroshenko has assured that the same guarantees that the state of Ukraine will protect the rights of those priests and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, who voluntarily decide to “get out from under Moscow,” together with other Orthodox to build a unified Ukrainian local Orthodox Church.
