The United States is closely monitoring the situation in Syria, and intend to respond quickly in the event of the use by Damascus of chemical weapons, the statement said White house spokesman Sarah Sanders issued on Tuesday.
“Let us be clear: our position remains firm — if President Bashar Assad decides again to use chemical weapons, the United States and its allies will respond quickly and appropriately”, — stated in it.
The statement stressed that “the United States is closely monitoring the situation in Idlib province, where millions of innocent citizens are under an imminent threat of attack by the Assad regime supported by Russia and Iran.”
The white house recalls that D. trump has already indicated that such an attack would be an escalation of the conflict and put at risk the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
“The U.S. will continue tirelessly to work with our allies to find lasting diplomatic solution to resolve the Syrian military conflict under the auspices of resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council”, — stated in the statement of the White house.
Earlier D. trump wrote on Twitter that “President Bashar al-Assad should not recklessly attack Idlib”, and “the Russians and Iranians will make a great humanitarian error, if you participate in this potential human tragedy”.
