Russia is trying with the help of social networks to exacerbate the divisions in American society, says Minister of internal security of the United States Kirsten Nielsen. Her words reports Bloomberg.
Nielsen stated that her Department has not fixed the Russian secret services attempt to intervene in the midterm elections in the United States, which will be held this year. Despite this, the Department of homeland security will assist regional authorities in preparing for possible cyber attacks from Russia or other countries.
Despite the fact that Russia is not trying to re-intervene in the elections, its security services continue to “aggressive actions” against the United States in cyberspace, said the Minister. In particular, American exploration recorded “persistent attempts of Russia to use social media, sympathetic to her people and other social groups in order to sow discord and division in American society,” says Nielsen. She noted that these attempts are not necessarily associated with “specific politicians or political campaigns”.
